It’s always a treat to eat at a Michelin starred restaurant and it was no different at Gramercy Tavern in New York City. The only difference with this experience was a friend used to work at Gramercy Tavern and hooked us up with some goodies and a tour of the kitchen.
Food
Our table was in the dining room, as opposed to the tavern area, which serves a tasting-menu only. We received star-treatment as guests of our chef friend who arranged a special tasting menu with items not listed in the regular menu. We also ordered a smaller wine pairing with our dinner, that included wine, white ale, and a sparkling sweet wine.
The freshness of each bite of food alluded to its source – the nearby Green Market where the Gramercy Tavern chefs gather their daily bounty. Here is a photo recount of what we ate:

Desserts:
The dessert courses at Michelin starred restaurants never fail to impress me and the spread at Gramercy Tavern totally exceeded my expectations! Confessional: it wasn’t even my birthday but when the restaurant asked if we’re celebrating anything, I couldn’t resist 🙂
The Other Stuff
The rustic dining room was dimly lit, making it challenging to take optimal foodie pics. The service was attentive – our server explained each dish and beverage to us in great detail. The icing on the cake was our kitchen tour. It was mind blowing to see so many chefs preparing our meals with such polished agility.
