The holiday season is a perfect time to celebrate with friends and family over good food. What better place to eat, drink and be merry than at the Ritz-Carlton? Our party of 9 decided to celebrate in style and have our holiday dinner at TOCA, Ritz-Carlton in the heart of Toronto.
Food
The Christmas Eve menu was a 3-course meal. To start, the squid and potatoes fell a bit flat, as if it had rested for too long after it was prepared. Others at the table who ordered the foie gras gave more favourable reviews. The filet mignon main was a nice change of pace as it was seared perfectly medium and was perfectly tender. The bites just melt in your mouth! The highlight of the meal was the dessert table, arranged near the entrance of the restaurant. There was a decadent spread of pies, tarts, cakes, parfaits, cheeses, and a chocolate fountain – a sweet way to end off our meal!
The Other Stuff
Spots filled up quickly for Christmas Eve dinner at TOCA. Due to the size of our group, we had to reserve the private room, which had a minimum spend of $1000 for the group. I have to mention that I was rather underwhelmed by the decor in the private room – there were extra chairs lining the perimeter of the room. The decor wasn’t reflective of the Ritz’s standards!
Overall, my experience at TOCA was a positive one and I would definitely celebrate other special occasions here again. The holiday menu changes from year to year. For the latest updates, click here to visit TOCA’s main site. This review reflects the 2014 holiday menu.
