If you follow any Toronto food hashtag on social media, chances are that you’ve come across pictures of the fried lobster mountain at Fisherman Lobster Clubhouse Restaurant. Located in a strip plaza in North Scarborough, aquariums line the perimeter of Fisherman Lobster Clubhouse Restaurant where giant Alaskan king crab, eel, and lobsters were on display. Go on an empty stomach and if you have serious shellfish allergies, stay far away from this place!
Food
The menus can get a little confusing. Yes, I said menus. We were handed a stack of at least 5 different menus where you can order à la carte or set dinners.
We had the set dinner for 5-7 people though it was enough food to feed a small village. The Shark Fin Soup came first, followed by the Braised Abalone in Oyster Sauce. The abalone wasn’t served whole but cut into pieces. Either way, it was tender and flavourful. Next was the Double Lobster served as 2 courses: in Hong Kong Style and with Dry Garlic. Then, there was a 2.25 pound Crab in Hong Kong style and Steamed Southern Flounder. To get your fix of veggies, there was the Poached Snow Pea Tips with Goji Berries.
The Other Stuff
There are 2 sittings per evening – an earlier sitting around 6 pm and the second sitting at 8 pm. We made reservations 2 nights in advance and the earlier sitting was already booked up. I generally prefer not to eat too late; by the time we finished our HUGE meal at 10 pm, I started to get a food coma. I would highly recommend the earlier seating.
After ordering, the server brought out all the live catch for our viewing. It was a little odd to see all the sea creatures we were about to eat all hang out together in the plastic container!
