Head to these tried and true shops that I used at the Fabric Market:
1. Zhao A Si (Shop 274)
The mother (tailor) and daughter (shopkeeper) team was a pleasure to work with. Friendly and English speaking, daughter Sarah took the stress out of the bargaining process. This shop specializes in dresses and coats. I had a wrap cashmere coat made and am very satisfied with the detailing and quality.
2. Sun Guo Jun (Shop 258)
Gentlemen looking to cut a tailored suit, peacoat or dress shirt should head to this shop. It was a pleasure dealing with the shopkeeper, Yang, a delightful young woman who spoke English and was very knowledgeable of garment-construction. This shop works with fine wool and cashmere. For men’s classic peacoats, the lining, buttons, lapel width and buckle hardware can all be customized. Men’s tailor shops are the best for constructing sharp women’s work wear and this shop is no exception – I had a lined sheath dress made in navy English wool.
3. Faye Design (Shop 127)
If you’re looking for dresses, Faye and Jay’s shop offers a wide range of dresses, from casual to formal. I selected a Victoria Beckham style dress with short flared sleeves, made in a luxurious Italian wool fabric. The order was placed on the morning before my date of departure and the shop delivered the dress to my hotel on the same day by midnight.
4. Daisy Dress Shop (Shop 145)
Daisy Dress Shop specializes in cashmere coats modelled after the latest high fashion runway styles. The shop is attended by 4 young women who are friendly and honest. You can customize pockets, buttons, lapels and anything else you can imagine. The cashmere comes in a rainbow of colours and on the spot alterations is possible.
